Passenger trains crossing at Snowdon Station, 1923. Note that despite the station's official name being South Snowdon the name board had yet to be changed. Prince (fitted with chopper couplings for WHR work) has brought the southbound train from Dinas, having been turned for running up the WHR from Porthmadog. It comprises Ashbury corridor buffet car No. 24, Metropolitan No. 29 (also known as the Gladstone Car) and what looks like a FR 4-wheeler brake van. Interestingly it does not look like No. 4 or 5 (which are known to have been fitted with dual brakes for use on the WHR at this time). There appears only to be a single side window, meaning it can only be one of the double balcony vans (No. 6 or 7) which suggests it was necessary to have a brake at rear with the WHR bogie carriages not having all been fitted with vacuum brakes yet. All of the small FR vans were converted mk3 quarrymen's carriages.
The northbound train seems to be purely FR stock, comprising Curly Roofed Van No. 3 and Bowsider No. 17 or 18 plus likely another Bowsider, and is hauled by Palmerston. The WHR was heavily reliant on FR motive power at this time.
