View from footbridge at Tan-y-Bwlch Station of two trains crossing, James Spooner on the up train and Livingston Thompson on the down train. Probably photographed in August 1887 at the same time as the photographs in the Spooner Album. Heavily staged with so many members of staff posing for the photograph. Seven of the eight Small Birmingham 4-wheeler carriages are present, including all the 3rd class vehicles (Nos 3, 4, 5, 6) and both of the open vehicles (Nos 12 & 13). One of the 1st class semi-open carriages (No. 1 or 2) can be seen in the Up train. Also present are the 1880 Brown Marshalls bogie vans (Nos 4 & 5). The bogie carriages are Nos 15 & 16 on the Up train and Bowsiders Nos 17 & 18 on the Down. The goods vehicles are wooden and iron 2-ton slate waggons and a single 3-ton slate waggon.
The driver at the front, is John Parry Jones. The man standing by the 3-ton slate wagon directly behind the van on the up train is Inspector Thomas Henry Hovendon. Note the Oakeley Arms horse-drawn single-decker omnibus on the right, fitted with a rear opening door and longitudinal seating.
