Title
The Baldwin Tractor above Penrhyn Crossing.
The Baldwin Tractor and Bogie Van No. 2 at Corn Picyn above Penrhyn Crossing during 1956. Extract from the accompanying letter - 'Enclosed is a snapshot of what may have been the first preservation works train to penetrate beyond Penrhyndeudraeth. Certainly the track beyond the level crossing was thickly overgrown as I remember it. The presence of the train attracted the attention of many of the residents of the area.' L Ellis.

The locomotive has certainly not yet been turned, and is still running as an 0-4-0. However it looks to have been repainted and the large handrail on the front of the locomotive shows that it is running with the newly fitted four-speed Meadows gearbox and Gardner 3LW diesel engine. Van No. 2 was heavily used in the early days on works trains, transporting volunteers as they worked to restore the railway.
