James Spooner outside Boston Lodge Engine Shed, 11 June 1925. The absence of cleaners (cost cutting) is made obvious in this photograph, the locomotive is filthy. Top end fireman's side spectacle is broken. Inside the cab can be seen the large fire iron.

Note the horizontal lever below the firehole which operated the brakes (only operating on one of the bogies) and the large greedy boards atop the bunkers.
