Merddin Emrys & Moel Tryfan derelict inside Boston Lodge Engine Shed during the closure circa 1950. Moel Tryfan is dismantled down to its power bogie and boiler, having been dumped over a decade earlier midway through an overhaul that was never to be completed. In contrast Merddin is in the exact state it was left in after having hauled its last train under the old company. The water, ash, and coal left in the locomotive accelerated the locomotive's deterioration over the nine years of closure.
