Date

Merddin Emrys at Porthmadog Harbour Station, 12.30pm 19 September 1895. This wonderful photograph shows the locomotive shortly before its first major rebuilt and with the original boiler in its final period of use. The cab opening has been reduced in size since Bleasdale's photograph, although it retains the large spectacle plates. The company crests are no longer evident, but the lining can still just be made out on the tanks. Other features include stovepipe chimneys and separate smokebox handrails front and sides. Lamps fore-and-aft. Britannia Foundry in the background. Note the point lever in the foreground with buried rodding, and the point indicator/raised ground signal to the left of the locomotive.
