Derelict track at Penlan above Tanygrisiau, July 1972. Note the guard rail on the inside of the curve. On the left stands the pole for the disc signal protecting the Cwmorthin sidings at the top end of Tanygrisiau station. The access road and power station in the distance are a vivid reminder that at this time this section of the line was completely isolated, the route having been destroyed below Tanygrisiau station. Moelwyn Inclines rise above the power station. This fascinating scene visualises the challenge that faced the railway, cut off from its historic upper section and namesake in the name of progress.
