Prince derailed near Market Hall.

Prince derailed near Market Hall, Blaenau Ffestiniog, February 1924. The building on the right is the North Western Hotel. This was caused by confusion of shunting whistles in bad weather. The locomotive was propelling wooden slate waggons Up the mineral line towards the GWR yard. The whistle signal for this route was three blasts of the small whistle, but seeing as this was the broken the large whistle was used. The was in fact the signal for the LNWR yard. In the thick mist, the signalman changed the points under the slate waggons, which causes them to derail. One became wedged underneath the locomotive's buffer team, tipping it over on its side. Whilst the gauge glass broke, none of the crew were harmed (the driver was William R. Williams), and the damage was slight.
