Welsh Pony inside Boston Lodge Engine Shed (tin shed road), August 1955. Note the rather battered headlamp and scrawled name on the wooden nameplate mount.
There had been a newspaper article (Y CYMRU) reporting the theft of the locomotive's plates by "knaves from over the border" in or around 1949, although the paper accidentally referred to the locomotive as "Rachel Parry". The explanation for this might lie in the shorthand used by the reporters at the time. In Pitman's Shorthand Dictionary 'welsh' is similar to a curved version of 'retch' ('retchel'), and 'parry' like a less curved version of 'pony'.
