The ALCo Mountaineer at Llyn Ystradau, 28 May 1977. This was the test train (and first steam train) to what would become the temporary terminus of the line. Major Olver's inspection train ran the day after. Note the french pins and slate waggon hook for Deviation work. Observation Car No. 100 and ex-Smiths Bocoal waggon No. 63 (piped for vacuum and fitted with gauging frame) are on the platform road. The driver is Clive Gibbard and the fireman is Mick Whittle. The old route can be seen disappearing beneath the waters of the reservoir (at high tide) in the background.
