Title
Palmerston at Harbour Station Coal Stage.
Palmerston at Porthmadog Harbour Station Coal Stage. The locomotive still has the lower dome cover but it missing its tank filler lid. The tender has damage but no patches and the livery lining is still visible under the grime, as is the No. 4 on the buffer beam. The lower part of the smokebox has been replaced. Of interest are the front driving wheels, being disc rather than spoked so a set from either LG or WP has been fitted presumably to keep the locomotive in traffic whilst its own wheels received maintenance. The visible smokebox repair and the other features suggest a date around 1928.

Note the mobile coaling stage behind locomotive, emplaced without its wheels, and the inside bearing wooden 2-ton coal waggon behind the locomotive. The huge lumps of coal in the waggon, tender, and baskets look totally unsuitable for FR locomotives and is typical of the fuel that the railway could get its hands on during this period. The building and wall in the background surround the slate quay on South Snowdon Wharf.
