Waggons in Boston Lodge Bottom Yard, probably in the 1920's. In the foreground are Cleminson 6-wheeler No. 8 covered with corrugated iron roof, iron flat ex-2-ton slate, wooden 2-ton slate No. 314, wooden 2-ton coal No. 3 (featuring some vary wayward carpentry!), and most interestingly of all, wooden 'oyster' 1-ton open No. 27. Behind these are wooden 4-ton coal No. 80 and one of the mk3 quarrymen's carriages. The vehicles in the foreground are on 3-Road, with those behind on 2-Road. Note the waggon turntable underneath the slate waggon for accessing the Top Yard and 1-Road via right angled track.
Note the tare weights (the actual net weight when unladen) painted on each of the waggons, which was important on weighbridges, allowing the correct tonnage of goods carried to be recorded accurately and tolls charged accordingly. The coal stack in the background is remarkably neat.
