No. 10 Merddin Emrys' boiler under steam test in Boston Lodge Bottom Yard, 21 August 1959. The old company Vulcan boiler was repaired on site by staff from the Vulcan Foundry. First steaming since closure. New tube plates, tubes, smokeboxes, chimneys fitted. Note how the locomotive still retains the riveted boiler cradle which would be replaced before the locomotive re-entered service. It was to be almost another two years before the rest of the locomotive was completed and ready for traffic.
The figure on the left in the braces could be Bill Plumbton, one of the Vulcan boilermakers. Long Shed in the background.
Source. Derek Harrison.
