Frith - Taliesin (I) and Merddin Emrys crossing at Tan y Bwlch circa 1880. No 'barn' or Station House, which dates this photograph sometime between 1879 and 1883. Seven of the eight Small Birmingham 4-wheelers are present, including both 1st class carriages Nos 1 & 2 and both fully open carriages Nos 12 & 13. Only one of the carriages is missing and the Down train has no fewer that five of them marshalled together along with 1st class Ashbury No. 10 for a total of six 4-wheelers. The other carriages in the set are Brown Marshalls bogie carriages Nos 15 & 16 and Curly Roofed Van No. 1.
The mixed Up train has an impressive rake of some seventeen loaded goods waggons between the locomotive and the carriages, loaded with sheeted goods, barrels, and coal. These are of various interesting types. Some are older examples with vertical wooden strapping and inside bearing wheels, whilst others are the widely employed large 4-ton type. Behind the 4-wheelers are Bowsiders Nos 17 & 18 in their distinctive cream and brown livery (not yet fitted with window bars), another Curly Roofed Van, followed by the customary tail of empty slate waggons.
A horse-drawn wagonette awaits passengers besides the gated entrance to the old Roman road, bound for the Oakeley Arms Hotel.
Beyond the station, Creuau Bank still retains a flight of stairs on the valley side.
