Frith - Merddin Emrys and Taliesin (I) crossing at Tan y Bwlch circa 1880. No 'barn' or Station House, which dates this photograph sometime between 1879 and 1883. Seven of the eight Small Birmingham 4-wheelers are present, as are all four of the Brown Marshalls built bogie carriages (Nos 15 & 16 on the Up train, Bowsiders Nos 17 & 18 on the Down train), and two of the Curly Roofed Vans (Van No. 1 on Up train). The Up mixed train has goods waggons and Ashbury 4-wheeler No. 10 marshalled at the front, whilst the 'empty' slate waggons behind the van are loaded with various goods, including what appear to be sections of pipe for plumbing. This is a significant load for this locomotive. The driver of Merddin Emrys poses in front of his engine(which has no sandpots at this end at this time) whilst Taliesin's fireman is busy taking water.

Note the new lamp posts which have their lamps mounted on the side rather than on top. A horse-drawn wagonette awaits passengers besides the gated entrance to the old Roman road, bound for the Oakeley Arms Hotel.

Beyond the station, Creuau Bank still retains a flight of stairs on the valley side.
