Frith - Trains crossing at Tan y Bwlch Station, 1886 - 1887. Merddin Emrys is in charge of the Down mixed train (note the mineral waggons visible behind the Brown Marshall 4-wheelers), and is yet to be fitted with vacuum brakes. The station house is yet to be built. James Spooner is in charge of the Up mixed train. The carriages present in this view include Brown Marshalls bogies Nos 15 & 16, Bowsiders Nos 17 & 18, and both of the Brown Marshalls large bogie vans (Nos 4 & 5). Note the scotch block on the centre road. The fourth carriage on the Down train (Brown Marshalls 4-wheeler No. 12 or 13) is still fitted with a canvas canopy. The rake of empty slates strung behind the van on the Up train includes wooden and iron 2-ton and larger 3-ton waggons. The photographer's vantage point on the bridge gives a good view of Creuau Farm on the hillside.
