BEV (British Electric Vehicle) the Grogan at Minffordd Station circa 1977. The driver is Fred Howes with Peter Dennis riding shotgun. This battery powered locomotive had been built by Wingrove & Rogers and acquired from Alan Keef for constructing the new Moelwyn Tunnel on the Deviation. The locomotive is seen here being transferred to Minffordd for ultimate disposal (sale) following the completion of the tunnel. The eclectic train comprises 3-ton slate waggon No. 142 (in use as MPU E1) and RAF No. 97, apparently transporting one of the German Feldbahn bogies. It is possible the mobile power unit was in use as a necessary precaution/recharge source for the battery when using this electric locomotive on such an unusually long journey.
