New Tunnel South during the Deviation circa 1974. Excavating the tunnel cutting and using the spoil to make an embankment/create the work area for the tunnel excavation. Colonel Campbell (having a license for explosives) could blast the rock in the cuttings so the Deviationists could then manually dig it out, loading the spoil into the skip waggons. The fill was used at the Bog site at the side of the new embankment at the start of the spiral. 1836 incline on the right.
