Russell with a coal train at Dinas Junction Station, 1932. The locomotive carries the distinctive tool box on the front apron and the dome is commendably polished. The main station building and running line is on the left with the transhipment sidings in the distance.

The unfitted coal train comprises a large ex-NWNGR wooden 4-ton coal waggon (note the side door) followed by what is probably an FR 4-ton coal waggon, a vehicle of similar size but fitted with an end-door. These are followed by an ex-WD type D Bocoal, probably wearing FR markings on the nearest panel. The smaller waggon behind is a WHR waggon (so marked on the top rail) which might be a 3-plank of the type some consider to be side tippers. This is followed by another FR 4-ton end-door coal waggon, and another Bocoal. Bringing up the rear is the unnumbered unfitted WHR goods brake van with windows set wide apart. WHR Covered Goods Van No. 4 (fitted with dual side doors and a corrugated roof) is visible right at the back next to the goods shed, although it's doubtful whether it is actually coupled to the train (which would give the Railway Inspectorate a nasty turn) or if it just happened to be there. Several photographs show one or both of the vans in that position, as though that is where they were kept when not in use. The absence of empty slates and the large size of the waggons suggests this train wasn't headed for Bryngwyn (unless the shunting is incomplete). The most likely alternate need for a train like this was coal traffic to Beddgelert, as well as other villages along the way.
