Mountaineer heading out onto the Cob from Porthmadog Harbour Station, September 1972. The ALCo is hauling C set, comprised of carriages Nos 14, 100, 23 or 26, 19 or 20, 12, 105, and 11. The marshalling of No. 14 and No. 100 (a buffet car and an observation car) at the head of the train is very unusual. The first two carriages are seen in use on a Deviation special behind the Simplex in other photographs in this series, which may explain their presence here. Note the stone blocks on the Cob shoreline reinforcing the toe of the embankment.
