Boston Lodge Top Yard and Joiners Shop, 16 August 1936. This is a historically important view of the Works in old company days, and offers an interesting comparison with photographs taken from the same vantage point in the early preservation era.

Moving clockwise around the works are the Joiners Shop, Blacksmiths Extension, Blacksmiths Shop (still with all it's chimneys), Iron Foundry, Machine Shop, Erecting Shop, Long Shed, Sawmill, Boston Lodge Cottages, Brass Foundry, and the Old Oil Store.

Note the various ventilators adorning the rooftops, the outside back stairs used to access the pattern loft, and the belfry. The various chimneys all appear to be in good condition. In the yard can be glimpsed various items of ongoing work, a 3-ton slate waggon, and the small turntable that gave cross access from the Blacksmiths and Old Oil Store to the main siding complex.

Behind the works is the siding serving the Joiners Shop. This was built for bogie carriages which were too large to use the waggon turntable access to the earlier joiners shop in the extension. This siding came from Glan y Mor, in front of the carriage sheds and behind the erecting shop and machine shop, this access has since been blocked off by the extended erecting shop.
