Minffordd Long Siding, 1956. The main line has received replacement sleepers. The track is doublehead. The nearest chairs are later, square base, FR pattern but, one chair down from the rail joint they change to the characteristic S chairs. The severed point allowed Up trains to cross onto the Mineral Line and set back to collect empty slate waggons from the Long Siding. It also allowed loaded slates that had been over the weighbridges to re-join the Main Line if they were destined for the Harbour, rather than Minffordd Yard. The far end of the siding is filled with slate waggons.
In the recess where the drystone wall on the left veers away from the Main Line is one of the former disc signals, still with its disc at this time. This disc was operated by a capstan just out of sight around the curve of the Main Line and was associated with the Quarry Lane (Lottie's) level crossing. Note the spoil banks on the right of the photo (subsequently removed to create the little group of sidings that now comprise Minffordd Top Yard).
