Title
Prince and Simplex Mary Ann outside Boston Lodge Works Gates.
Prince and Simplex Mary Ann outside Boston Lodge Gates, August 1956. This is an interesting scene. Trains were by this time running to Minffordd so this is not the chain shunt (the passengers in Bowsider No. 17 also rules this out). Brown Marshalls Van No. 5 (operating as carriage No. 12) is on the top of the train, unusually there is no brake vehicle on the bottom of the train.

The driver on Prince looks like Allan Garraway and perhaps Ian Smart driving the Simplex. Both look as though they might be in the middle of some joint shunting operation involving the odd formation train. Prince looks to be coming out onto the Cob seeing AGWG concentrating in that direction, whilst the Simplex looks to be heading towards Glan y Mor. If this is the case, it implies a locomotive swap with Prince heading out onto the mainline. There might also be steam from a third loco that the Simplex second man is looking at beyond the gate pillars, which could only have been Taliesin (II) which was very close to entering service at this time.
