Title
Welsh Pony on exhibition at Bingley Hall, Birmingham.
Date
07/03/1963
Welsh Pony on exhibition at Bingley Hall, Birmingham, 7 March 1963. The locomotive is in the same condition as it was found when the railway re-opened, including the wheel for the handbrake and the folding shutters (for use on rainy days) over the rear door. Note the Talyllyn Preservation Society stand in the background, with what looks like No. 2 Dolgoch's boiler on display. No. 2 returned to traffic only a few months later and was being rebuilt in the Midlands at the time.

The sign on the left reads: "This locomotive Welsh Pony was built by George England (of London) and was one of the last to work on the railway before it was closed. Its condition as you see it is fully representative of all the locomotives and rolling stock when the railway was taken over. The engine will require complete overhaul and it is estimated that this will cost at least £2,000 (some £52,000 in modern money!) It is hoped that the proceeds from this exhibition will enable this project to be carried out. You can support this either by making a donation or by joining the Ffestiniog Railway Society. The stand stewards will be pleased to give particulars."
