Title
Merddin Emrys outside the Erecting Shop.
Merddin Emrys outside the Erecting Shop. Newly completed after major rebuild, June 1961. Virtually the entire superstructure is new material with the old brasswork (handrails, name/number plates) reinstalled. The frame side plates and aprons were original, but the main boiler cradle was new and weld fabricated instead of being built up out of riveted plate. The smokeboxes and chimneys were also new, but the old company Vulcan Foundry waggon-top boiler and power bogies were retained. The bogies are LT's original units fitted with JS's wheelsets. It appears that the vertical stanchions for the handrails and the cast stands for the sand pots (not yet fitted) were reused. The dome covers came from a South Eastern and Chatham Railway P class 0-6-0T locomotive, whilst the cabside stanchions on the fireman's side are ex-England locomotive originals.
