Blaenau Ffestiniog ex-GWR Yard, circa 1961. The standard-gauge headshunt in the foreground has been cut back to avoid the complications of the narrow-gauge crossover. This must have been considered sufficient for the locomotives in use on the branch, by then mostly if not all GWR pannier tanks such as the 5700 and 6400 classes. The crossover was protected by catchpoints on the narrow gauge side and the tall signal on the platform for the GWR. The station and yard look deserted, and the line to Bala would soon be closed and lifted, although numerous slate waggons and a standard-gauge van can still be glimpsed in the yard in the distance. The leased FR track on the left is still in use to transport slate from the former Duffws Station to the main line yards.
