Rhiwbryfdir village and Pont Goch (Oakeley Viaduct) with permission of Llyfrgell Genedlaethol Cymru/ National Library of Wales
Rhiwbryfdir village and Pont Goch in 1878/79 shows the FR in its heyday, with narrow gauge wagons marshalled in sidings at the foot of the Welsh Slate Company's incline and others seemingly awaiting the attention of the FR's blacksmith. The LNWR tunnel mouth is visible through the viaduct, without the extra plinth for the date above the mouth stonework. The right hand span of the viaduct has yet to be altered to iron construction, to span the LNWR line into Blaenau Ffestiniog. The temporary platform and station is not visible at the tunnel mouth putting this photograph before the opening day of 22 July 1879. Dressed slates are stacked in front of smithy and early wagons
