Title
John Thomas's view of Blaenau Ffestiniog from Graig Ddu with permission of Llyfrgell Genedlaethol Cymru / The National Library of Wales
John Thomas's view of Blaenau Ffestiniog from Graig Ddu. Taken in 1878 (the North & South Wales Bank building is nearing completion). On the left side of centre, the FR is located in a shallow cutting with dry stone walls on either side. The site of the junction with the F&BR is indicated by the kick in the wall on the far side of the FR, almost equidistant between the end of the quite new school and the small, apparently roofless, cottage with two chimneys. On the right side of centre the route of the F&BR is shown from the gas works (with their enlarged tanks) near Cwmbowydd Road, almost to Diphwys station. The semaphore signal was at the end of the loop of Diphwys station. In the background one can see the steep incline to Holland's Quarry.
