Title
Bleasdale No.04 Merddin Emrys slanting view
Slanting view of Merddin Emrys taken in August 1887 at Porthmadog. The loco having been turned on Boston Lodge turntable to show the driver's side and controls. This photograph is Plate 6 in the Spooner Album. The Spooner designed regulator wheel mechanism is very prominent inside the cab. This operated each engine in tandem, but proven unnecessary in service. The driver also appears to enjoy his own fire hole door from which he can check the state of the fire. Original features such as the large large spectacle plates and stovepipe chimneys retain, although the cab is overall and no longer semi-open to the elements. Combined makers, number and patent plates. The buildings visible on the left belong to Britannia Foundry. The photographer is stood at the station throat at Porthmadog Harbour.
