The ALCo Mountaineer and Observation Car No. 100 at Llyn Ystradau, 28 May 1977. This was the test train (and first steam train) to what would become the temporary terminus of the line. Major Olver's inspection train ran the day after. Note the french pins and slate waggon hook for Deviation work. The rest of the train consists of barn carriages Nos 105, Buffet Car 103, 104, and ex-Smiths Bocoal waggon No. 63 (piped for vacuum and fitted with gauging frame). The driver is Clive Gibbard and the fireman is Mick Whittle. Brooke's Quarry and Moel Ystradau in the distance.
