Palmerston out of use in the Top Yard, Boston Lodge Works, 24 July 1946. Having been emplaced to power the steam hammer inside the Blacksmiths Shop, by this date the locomotive was becoming derelict and parts have begun to go missing, although compared to later photographs the locomotive is relatively complete, especially the cab fittings. Note the dome cover on the roof.

In the foreground is one of the small checkerboard pattern waggon turntables that provided access to the right angle track between the Blacksmiths Shop and the Old Oil Store behind the photographer.
