Title
LNWR waggons at Llechwedd.
Date
22/09/1978
LNWR slate waggon and coal waggon at Llechwedd, 22 September 1978. The photographer is stood close to the main exit incline. The coal waggon is metal built with wooden cladding, one of fifty built to fit on the standard-gauge transporter waggons to Deganwy. This is why they are so narrow and tall, having the same footprint as the slate waggons. As time went by they were used internally within the quarries, where their dimensions would have made them more useful in tight spaces, especially when compared to the FR built coal waggons which are much wider than 2-ton slate waggons. The waggon seen here has since been preserved on the FR within the Waggon Tracks Shed.
