Title
Gravity train passing through Minffordd Station.
Gravity train passing through Minffordd Station, 1920. It has just passed the disc signal and is headed towards the Weigh House and associated weighbridges. All of the slate waggons are 2-ton types, one of them wooden. The inclusion of 4-wheeler brake vans (in this case double balcony No. 6 or 7 converted from mk3 quarrymen's carriages) at the rear of gravity trains appears to have been an interwar practice. Having been marshalled at the rear of Up mixed trains, it was probably the easiest way to get them back down the line.
