Title
Merddin Emrys and Palmerston at Porthmadog Harbour Station.
Merddin Emrys and Palmerston at Porthmadog Harbour Station. Photograph taken between 1903 - 1907. Palmerston is shunting the goods shed, and is yet to be fitted with a dome which helps date the scene. Merddin Emrys is in the station road with a passenger train comprising a mk3 quarrymen's carriage, a 3rd class Small Birmingham 4-wheeler, Bowsiders Nos 17 & 18, and Brown Marshalls Van No. 4 or 5. Both locomotives are vacuum fitted. Russells Watches advertisement on the main station building. In the background can be seen various masts and spars belonging to ships in the harbour.

Note the set of inner 'rails' inside the rails on the station road, ending just upline of the platform end. Presumably these are the runners for the articulated cover-plates for the platform-road inspection pit, these being drawn forward by chain attached to the Bottom Shunter, thus exposing the pit.
