Special train celebrating 500,000 Steam Miles in the Preservation Era, Prince at Tan y Bwlch, 1 April 1983. Note the left hand running. The tracks had been swapped over because the main line was heavily worn and in need of renewal. However because funds were not in place to do this immediately, the arrangement seen here was set up as an interim solution. Dave Yates installed the water column. The flanged piping remains in the ground today.

Other features on display at this time include rodding from the never to be commissioned signal box heading towards the top points. The siding previously accessed from the top end points has been removed. Today's siding is accessed from the station road rather than the top end points. The first carriage is aluminium prototype No. 116, seen here with second version windows.
